South America -- Counting in the Rainforest
Goals and objectives:
Assessment: Observe and note student counting for one to one correspondence during creation of images. Assess completed images for number writing and correct number of items. Have students check each other's work for practice in counting and distinguishing the correct number/numeral combinations. |
Tips for Teachers
This is an activity that lends itself well to differentiation for student learning abilities. While the original activity has students making groups of one to ten, you may modify the numbers for any student who is having difficulty, focusing on the numbers from one to five for example. Those students who are in need of a more challenging activity may make groupings for numbers above ten, or use the illustrations to show math addition and subtraction problems.
