Tips for Teachers
I like to use gingerbread man activities at the beginning of the school year in kindergarten. We read a traditional story of the gingerbread man and bake our own cookies. The plan is to eat the cookies for our snack the following day, but of course the cookies have run away. We try to track down our cookies by visiting all the special people in our school building; the office staff, the music teacher, the P.E. teacher, the principal, and others. (I have informed these people in advance that we will be "chasing" our cookies at a certain time on that day.) Finally, we locate our missing cookies back in our room and eat them for snack before they run away again!
This app activity is a fun way for the students to reenact the creation of the cookie making and also allows opportunity for them to explore the use of the iPad at the beginning of the school year. While many students now have such devices in their homes, this is not true for all. Those that have not had the opportunity to use such a device may be hesitant and cautious at first, especially with others try to jump in too early to assist them without giving them time to try it on their own. This activity is a fun way to have everyone feel comfortable with the iPad before we begin using it in other activities. Resources:
